Post BHA - TAKE ACTION TO STOP MORE FAITH SCHOOLS!
Quote:
TAKE ACTION! ACADEMIES BILL!

Dear Supporter,

The Academies Bill, which will radically reshape the schools system, enters the Commons next week. This is the first time MPs will have the chance to scrutinize the Bill in detail.

We need your help to ensure that our serious concerns related to ‘faith schools’ are addressed by the Government.

Take Action Now- email your MP.

The Academies Bill is a massive de-regulation of public education which could significantly increase the power and influence of religious groups in our schools. It risks permanently entrenching religious segregation in our education system through irreversible changes which will permit wide discrimination in admissions and employment.

By “freeing” religious Academies from the national curriculum the Bill also risks exposing children to extreme religious views, including creationism.

Please write to your MP today and ask them to raise these concerns in Parliament on your behalf. You can use our automated email system to contact your MP right now – it will only take a couple of minutes.

Before you send your email to your MP, you’ll have the opportunity to read more on our concerns about the Bill. For a more detailed analysis, please read our Parliamentary Briefing for MPs.

The Bill is being rushed through Parliament, so it’s important we act quickly. Please take action today if you can.

Thank you for your support.

If you know anyone else who may be interested in taking this action, please feel free to forward this email to them!

Thank you!

Getting an error message on your link Alan.

I will certainly write to my MP, as he is perfectly aware there are no sectarian schools here and we have some of the best schools in Scotland.

Alan H.

When I try that link in your OP I get:

"A problem occurred trying to load the page
The campaign isn't properly configured"

I will write to my MP.

Thanks, Alan, email personalised and sent.

I have to admit that I am in favour of what some might call "elite" schools, "grammar" and "high" schools being examples. I have always disliked the idea that really bright kids can be help back, possibly frustrated to the point where they have or cause trouble in society. If these academies where a genuine move to boost the intellectual content of kids I would be for them, but as it stands it's an open door for problems.

I wish that education could be taken completely out of the control of politicians, well, party ones anyway - there will always be politics where two or more people with ideas of their own meet and have to reach a concsnsus!

As Alan H predicted a while back in anothert thread, the new academies are opening the way for more faith schools, so I will certainly be emailing my local MP. He appeared on the local TV news a short while back, as he'd missed a vote in the Commons because he was somewhat...ahem!.. 'tired and emotional'. Not a good start to his parliamentary career...

It's not that people want faith schools per se; they want uniforms, dicipline and no disruptive kids. And sacrificing the education of the majority for the unappreciated 'rights' of the minority is no solution either. I have great hopes that because they won't have to provide the service directly themselves, local authorities can commission speicalised education for the 'hard to teach', especially with the enhanced budget allocated to such kids, thanks to the Lib Dems..ahem...

Ooops, I think something went wrong with the addressing system for that email. I could not find a way to cancel the "Dear Recipients" address and added "Dear Richard" for my MP. That was because the result I got from the .gov website a few weeks ago when I searched for the MP for my postcode. But it is not Richard Graham, it is Neil Carmichael and the system (after one is allowed to review the email) tacks the right name on!

Huh, can't even trust .gov sites to get things right (I never really fully trust any website to be honest).
